        <p>Introduction to Tally Definition Language (TDL)
</p>
<p>
Tally Definition Language (TD) is a proprietary language of &#8220;Tally Solutions FZ LLC&#8221; and is specific to Tally only. You can use TDL for customizing Tally software as per your requirements.
</p>
<p>
We shall be posting sample programs regularly on this forum. Initially, we shall start with some basic features of TDL and later-on move to more advanced topics.
</p>
<p>
You can create your own TDL programs using any text-editor (like NOTEPAD). To compile these program, you need Tally Developer 2.7 which can purchased from Tally Solutions or any other Tally Authorised Dealer or Service centre.
</p>

<p>
When you compile your TDL program using Tally Developer, a TCP (Tally Compiled Program) file is generated. To use this TCP file, you need to do certain changes in the Tally.ini file. The Tally.ini file is located in the directory where Tally Software is installed.
</p>
<p>
Changes required in Tally.ini
<br />
USER TDL = YES
<br />
TDL = C:\TALLY\TDL1.TCP
</p>
<p>
Remarks:-
<br />
a) You are required to copy your TCP file to the Tally directory.
<br />
b) Use NOTEPAD to open and modify the Tally.ini file
</p>
<p>
Note:
<br />
1) Comments in TDL are written using double semi-colon ;;
<br />
2) The above TDL code contains several definitions viz. Menu,Report, Form, Part, Line, Field
<br />
3) Definitions are always written in square brackets [ ]
<br />
4) The # symbol modifes the default TDL menu &#8220;Gateway of Tally&#8221;

        <p><b>Tally to discontinue Tally Certified Professional (TCP) Exam </b>
</p>
<p>
Tally is in the process to revamp its education system. To develop a better ecosystem around Tally product some new thinking is going on. Training of Tally and Tally Academy network is one of the vital link in development of this ecosystem. The Tally certification process was also one of the tools of that ecosystem. The certification process was started with an expectation to create a work force of certified people who would be ready for market which has a huge demand for trained account professional. The work force was created but it couldn&#8217;t achieve the level it was planned for.
<br />
Tally Academies couldn&#8217;t create the scene where anybody willing to be certified in Tally just walk in for test and walk out with certificate in hand within 90 minutes. The number of students enrolled in Academy and number of students who took TCP had a huge gap.
<br />
Now Tally has decided to scrap the examination process and something new is expected very soon. In this scenario all academies should consume all TCP cards available with them before 31st Jan, 2009. Any students willing to attend the TCP test or preparing for it should go for it before 31st Jan, 2009. If the Academies are not able to consume all the cards then they should be returned to company.

        <p><b>Cheque Printing in Tally :
<br />
</b>
<br />
Go to Gateway of Tally > F11: Features > Accounting Features
</p>
<p>
Set Enable Cheque Printing and Set/Alter Cheque Printing Configuration to Yes.
</p>
<p>
Once the option Set/Alter Cheque Printing Configuration is activated to Yes, you have to the bank from the name of the Banks list
</p>
<p>
Company Name on Cheque : To print the company name on the cheque for signature purposes, mention the name of the Company (for example, ABC Company). If you do not want Tally to print the name, you can leave it blank. Many banks give cheques with your company name printed.
</p>
<p>
Name of Banks : Select the Bank from the Bank accounts list.
</p>
<p>
You will have to fill in the dimensions of the cheque. Tally accepts user defined cheque dimensions. Take the bank’s cheque book and measure the dimensions of a cheque leaf carefully in millimeters and fill in the above form. You may need to correct it after trying out a couple of cheques so that the positioning is accurate. The placing of the cheque in the printer also determines the printing. To avoid mistakes trial could be made on photocopies of a cheque before using an actual cheque leaf.&nbsp;
