Tally 9, now VAT Compliant for Puducherry

The Tally 9 accounting and inventory software, released recently by the country’s leading accounting software major, Tally Solutions, is now VAT compliant for Puducherry. The new software, besides incorporating statutory features, offers enhanced performance with capabilities such as Payroll and Point of Sale (POS) invoicing and excise for dealers.

Tally, which has demonstrated its leadership in the implementation of VAT domain expertise since 2005, has enabled customers to be VAT compliant across 31 states in the country, including Union Territories. It has also met VAT requirements in the U.K. and many South Asian countries such as Singapore (GST), Indonesia and Philippines. Backed by a statewide network of sales and service units, Tally has geared up to enable the business community in Puducherry to make a smooth transition from the sales tax regime to VAT.

Tally 9 simplifies every aspect of VAT—from recording transactions with Puducherry-specific VAT classifications to computing VAT reports and generating periodic VAT/composite returns and Annexures. In 2005, when most states, including Maharashtra, Punjab, West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, implemented VAT, Tally was the first accounting software to be VAT compliant for all VAT states in the country.

Tally has a dedicated cell that monitors changes in VAT and other statutes. It provides prompt updates for changes in rules and these are available on its website for customers to download. In addition to a wide network of support centres, a VAT helpdesk has been set up to support customers implementing VAT for the first time.

Tally 9 is considered the world’s most powerful, concurrent, multilingual and integrated business-accounting software that allows users to maintain accounts in any Indian language, view it in another, and print it in yet another language of their choice, if they so desire. It also offers greater reliability, scalability, accuracy and speed.

Explaining the Tally initiative, Shoaib Ahmed, Vice President (South Asia-Sales), said, “The objectives of VAT are to simplify tax structure and to create a uniform common market within the country. This will bring down prices that would enable Indian producers of goods to reduce costs. The changeover to VAT is a challenge, requiring a clear understanding of rules and compliance norms by the business community and the trading community. Tally Solutions has the unique distinction of spearheading the awareness campaigns to demystify VAT in the country and has consistently offered solutions for the smooth implementation of VAT across business segments in the country.”
