DU ties up with IT group

Delhi University (DU) has tied up with another IT company for a mutually beneficial partnership. The Tally (India) Pvt Ltd, a business accounting software enterprise, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with DU recently to impart training in business software.

The partnership will also boost employment for students. Shireen Rathore, dean of colleges, DU, said: “There is a lacuna in our education system which creates the gap between what the employers want and what the students have learnt.

To fill this gap, we introduced a part of Tally in the revised curriculum for commerce students in 2004 for the final year. But there is a need to take up the software seriously even by freshers.”

On why the university needs support of private players despite having its own computer centre, Rathore explained that the centre couldn’t train students in emerging software.

“The need for trained teachers to teach the new software cannot be met by the university. We need help from private companies who will also recruit our students after graduation,” she added.

The company will hold classes in all 57 colleges of the university for a certification course in Tally. “Under this tie-up we have designed a curriculum for students to acquire Tally skills and we are investing Rs 5 million in this initiative.

Tally will be offering the course for a subsidised fee and the software will also be offered to colleges free of cost. Our training schedule will include 72 hours of classes after college,” said M G Gopi, general manager, education and training business, Tally. The fee for the course is Rs 1,800.
